WARNING: don’t eat meat!
Fasting
is commonly practiced during the Holy Week. To fast means not to eat anything
except water. However most people have stomach sickness such as ulcer and the
like; others tend to go for abstinence instead. What is abstinence? Abstinence is
to obtain from eating red meat. It is satisfying and pleasurable to eat red meat,
for most people. To abstain from it is a form of sacrifice. So why do we need
to sacrifice? Sacrifice can be considered as an offering to Jesus, to thank Him
for saving us from sin. It will also help us recharge and abstain from sin and
pleasure.
Most
people eat fish on Lenten Season to show practice of abstinence. But if you like
fish more than red meat, then it wouldn’t be much of a sacrifice. So instead,
we can also show Jesus our sacrifice by abstaining from things we love to do.
For instance, some are fond of watching tv and movies. To minimize or even
avoid watching can be another form of abstinence. Others love to surf or play
games on the net. To abstain from it may be another form of sacrifice. I like
chocolates, so I made a small sacrifice not to eat it until Easter Sunday.
Whatever you choose to offer God will definitely be appreciated by Him, as long
as the sacrifice comes from your heart. After all, He didn’t put the signage on
His church, “WARNING: don’t eat meat…”
